Getting started
How does BoomClaps work?
A Bomb is a commitment with a deadline and a clear definition of done. Set the terms, choose who checks the result, then report completion or submit proof before the deadline. Completed check-ins earn XP.
How do I create a Bomb?
From your dashboard, choose Create. Pick a one-time task or a repeating habit, then set your deadline, completion criteria, and evidence type. Browse examples if you want a starting point. Save your draft, then arm the Bomb when you're ready. For partner review, your reviewer needs to accept the invitation first.
Who reviews my evidence and appeals?
With partner review, the person you invite reviews your proof and any eligible appeals. With self-reporting, you record the outcome yourself. You can invite an emergency buddy to review eligible self-report appeals.
Can AI set up my commitment or review my proof?Work in progress
AI-assisted setup and review are work in progress. You can start with an editable template and choose self-reporting or partner review today.
Evidence
How do I submit evidence?
Open the Bomb from your dashboard. For a repeating habit, pick the check-in date. Once the submission window opens, fill in the evidence form and submit before the deadline. Submitted proof can still be reviewed after the deadline.
What evidence types can I use?
BoomClaps supports photos, screenshots, video files, links, and written notes. Photos and screenshots can be up to 8 MiB. Pick the proof type when you set up your Bomb. If you choose self-reporting, evidence is optional.
Can I use a YouTube video as evidence?
Choose Link as the evidence type when you create the Bomb, then paste the video URL when you check in. Make sure your reviewer can open it. A public or unlisted video is the simplest option.
Can I use a focus timer or GPS check-in?
For written evidence, open Focus timer and GPS evidence tools on the submission form. You can add a completed browser timer session or share a location check-in after granting permission. The timer records a session and GPS records one location observation. Your reviewer still decides whether the proof meets the agreed criteria.
What should I do if my evidence was rejected?
Open the check-in and read your reviewer's reason. You can submit corrected proof if the submission window is still open. If you disagree with the decision, you can request an evidence dispute for up to seven days after rejection.
When is evidence deleted?Work in progress
After launch cleanup is enabled, proof submitted from the launch date is eligible for deletion once the check-in has a final verdict and any appeal period ends. Your outcome, review history, and XP stay in your record. Removing a YouTube link leaves the original video on YouTube.
Can I require live camera proof or an in-app timelapse?Work in progress
Live camera-only capture and in-app timelapse are work in progress. For now, agree with your reviewer on what a photo or video link should show.
Can BoomClaps block apps, track GPS avoidance, or read health data?Work in progress
App and website blocking, continuous GPS avoidance, and Apple Health or Google Fit integrations are work in progress. A browser GPS check-in is available for reporting your location at a specific moment.
Appeals
How do I request an appeal?
Open the affected Bomb or check-in date and use the appeal form when it is available. Choose the reason, explain what happened, and add a supporting link or existing submission if it helps. Your options depend on the agreed rules, the deadline, and the current result.
Why was my appeal denied?
Open the appeal to read the reviewer's decision and reason. An appeal can be denied if it falls outside the agreed exception rules or the supporting information doesn't establish what happened.
Can I request a refund?Work in progress
Refunds are work in progress. BoomClaps currently does not charge money stakes. If the issue is a review decision, use an evidence dispute when available.
Skips and vacations
How do I skip a check-in?
Open the check-in and request an excused skip from the appeal form if your Bomb allows it. Explain why you need the skip. Once approved, that date is excused.
Can I pause all my habits for a vacation?Work in progress
A vacation pause across all Bombs is work in progress. An excused skip applies to one check-in. If you're ending a repeating Bomb, Stop future occurrences cancels unopened dates and keeps your history.
Editing Bombs
How do I edit a Bomb or change its deadline?
Open the Bomb and choose Edit draft while the terms are still editable. Revoke pending invitations if they lock the draft. After the Bomb is armed, request a deadline extension for the affected check-in if the agreed rules allow it.
How do I delete a Bomb or end a repeating schedule?
Use Delete on an editable draft. For an armed repeating Bomb, use Stop future occurrences to cancel unopened dates. Current check-ins and completed history remain accessible.
Billing
When am I charged, and can I change a stake?Work in progress
Money stakes and automatic charges are work in progress. Saving a consequence in a Bomb's terms does not collect or transfer money.
How do I manage my subscription or payment card?Work in progress
Subscriptions and saved payment cards are work in progress. BoomClaps does not currently collect card details.
Account and support
How do reminders and missed check-in alerts work?Work in progress
Reminder preferences, automatic alerts, and social consequences are work in progress. You can export a calendar file from a Bomb and import it into your calendar app. Export again after a schedule change to get an updated snapshot.
What happens to my deadlines when I travel?
Deadlines use the timezone set on the Bomb. Check the timezone displayed beside the deadline when planning a check-in from another location.
